Dear Students, Welcome to the Department of Economics. These are very exciting times to study the science of Economics! Studying economics will help you understand and explain the reasons for and the consequences of many events; the global financial crisis, the Egyptian revolution, the flotation of the Egyptian pound, the Brexit, the United States’ recent protectionist moves, climate change.
The Ph.D. program in economics at UBC owes its strength to the quality of its research faculty, extensive opportunity for student-faculty interaction, and a diverse offering of specializations for thesis work. Our faculty members specialize in a wide range of topics, including economics of gender and the family, applied microeconomics, public economics, monetary economics.
Microeconomics and macroeconomics are not necessarily considered easy, but are sometimes included in this group. Outside of the notoriously “easy” exams, what makes an exam have a high level of difficulty vs. medium differs for each student.
